Have you ever wanted to visit dozens of countries in one day? Now you can with DC’s 2019 Around the World Cultural Food Festival. On August 17, take a day trip around the world at Freedom Plaza where over 40 countries’ foods, customs, and crafts will be presented for all of the city to enjoy. Here’s everything you need to know to make it part of your summer plans.

 

 

Now in its fourth year, the Around the World Cultural Food Festival is a day-long celebration of cuisine, traditions, and cultures from all over the globe right here in our nation’s capital. Kicking off at 11 a.m. and running until 7 p.m. in downtown DC, this festival is the perfect all-day activity for the entire family to enjoy and soak up the rich intercultural diversity found in and around the city.

This year, over 40 countries will be represented in the form of food, dance, crafts, and music. Seating begins on August 17 at 11 a.m., and the day’s festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with traditional dance on the main stage in Freedom Plaza. You can peruse the food stalls, shop for unique crafts, enjoy live music and performances, and soak up the summer weather in the heart of downtown. Whether you’re craving gelato from Florence, hand pies from Australia, arepas from Venezuela, or macarons from France, there is something for everyone at the Around the World Cultural Food Festival.

 

 

Admission to the event is free, and a plethora of food and crafts will be available for purchase. There are also a couple of ticket options from which to choose. If you’re looking to elevate your experience, support the festival through a VIP ticket. Three levels of VIP tickets are available, which grant access at varying degrees to a large VIP tent in front of the stage that you can enjoy throughout the day, a separate wait line at each food vendor, tasting samples from three or six countries (depending on the level of your ticket), and drink tickets. All tickets are available for sale on Eventbrite.

 

 

Luckily, Freedom Plaza is a very accessible area of DC. Just blocks from the White House, you can arrive by bus, Capital Bikeshare, or Metro to the Federal Triangle or Metro Center stations. There are also a number of parking garages in the area, although public transportation is encouraged as thousands are expected at the festival.
