3 Can't-Miss Art Festivals in DC This Winter

11/25/19

When it comes to art, Washington D.C. is no stranger. Aside from the Smithsonian Institute museums, which house incredible art from across the globe, the nation’s capital has plenty of local art to cherish as well.

When it comes to art, Washington D.C. is no stranger. Aside from the Smithsonian Institute museums, which house incredible art from across the globe, the nation’s capital has plenty of local art to cherish as well. Here is everything you need to know about three celebrations of art that will keep you feeling creative all winter long.

Project Create for Family Art Day

Join Project Create for Family Art Day on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The 2019 program runs through December 21st and is a great way to kick off the holiday season with the whole family. Celebrating the arts comes in all shapes and sizes, which is why Project Create sponsors free classes ranging from fashion to visual arts to music. Previous Family Art Days have started with a program geared toward 2-6 year olds from 11 AM to 12 PM with singing, dancing, and story-telling, while the afternoons are devoted to an all-ages art workshop with take-home crafts. Although the classes are free to attend, make sure to RSVP to help Project Create anticipate the number of attendees.

The Procrastinator’s Holiday Market

If you’re doing some last-minute Christmas shopping and want to pick out the perfect piece of art for someone special, swing by The Procrastinator’s Holiday Market. With art and food vendors, photo-ops with Santa Claus, and on-site entertainment, this is a great way to spend your afternoon. Opening on December 14th, the free and family-friendly market will be held at Art Enables on Rhode Island Avenue. Art Enables is a gallery that supports people with disabilities through programs that allow artists to build the skills necessary for a successful artistic career. The fifth annual market will happen rain or shine, so don’t miss your chance to shop for local art.

The American Craft Show

Sponsored by the American Craft Council, the American Craft Show will be held in Baltimore on February 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, 2020. This craft show will highlight the excellent skills and handiwork of some of the nation’s best artists. If you are a registered wholesale buyer, the American Craft Council will host two premium days of wholesale buying before the retail shop opens. Running February 19th and 20th, 2020, the wholesale craft show is an excellent place to shop for clients, museums, and art galleries.
